Heavy rainfall continues to impact the region, with the potential for localized flooding. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take precautions, particularly when traveling.

Key Updates

Current Flooding: A few minor flooding reports on Cape Cod; no significant flooding has been reported in the region as of 1pm.

Flood Watch: A Flood Watch remains in effect for all of Rhode Island, Southeast Massachusetts, and Martha’s Vineyard through 10:00 AM Saturday.

Additional Rainfall Totals: Widespread additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected, with localized amounts of 2 to 4 inches possible where heavy rain persists.

Primary Impacts: The primary concern remains urban and poor-drainage flooding, especially where storm drains are blocked by leaves.

River Flooding: There is a low risk for rivers across RI and SE MA to reach action or minor flood stage if rainfall exceeds 4 inches. River flooding remains a secondary concern.

Flood Safety Reminders

  • Residents are encouraged to take precautions during periods of heavy rainfall and localized flooding:
  • Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around and find an alternate route.
  • Avoid walking through floodwater whenever possible. Floodwater may conceal hazards, including debris, open drains, and downed electrical wires.
  • Use caution in low-lying and poor-drainage areas, where water can accumulate quickly.
  • Keep storm drains clear of leaves and debris when it is safe to do so. Never enter floodwater to clear a drain.
  • Stay informed by monitoring local weather forecasts, emergency alerts, and updates from public safety officials.
